Topic People Description
Diabetes and heart Giacomo Zoppini
Cardiovascular risk factors. Echocardiographic study of diastolic dysfunction in diabetes. Kidney disease and mortality in diabetes. Mortality for all the causes and specific causes in diabetes.
Endocrinology, Diabetology and Metabolism Giovanni Targher
The major research interest of Prof. Targher for >15 years has been the cause and prevention of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its relationships with risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), chronic kidney disease (CKD) and other extra-hepatic complications using clinical epidemiology and health services translational approaches.
Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism Enzo Bonora
Scientific activities mainly in the fields of: a) epidemiology of diabetes and related conditions; b) risk factors of type 2 diabetes and its chronic complications; c) pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes (impaired insulin secretion and insulin resistance) and related conditions (e.g. metabolic syndrome); d) obesity and fat distribution in humans and their metabolic and cardiovascular impact; e) therapy of diabetes and related conditions.
Endocrinology and Diabetes Paolo Moghetti
Research is focused on different areas of endocrinology (in particular hyperandrogenism, thyroid diseases and adrenal diseases) and diabetes (in particular type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes). The main current research project is the "Verona PCOS Pathophysiology and Phenotype (Verona 3P) Study", which aims at better understanding the pathophysiology of polycystic ovary syndrome, and is characterized by accurate phenotyping of affected women as regards the hallmarks of this condition. In particular, gold standard methods are used in order to assess insulin resistance, androgens and body composition. Another area of current research focuses on the effects of physical activity in diabetes, as well as in other endocrine and metabolic diseases.
Bone and mineral metabolic disease, osteoncology, endocrinology Francesco Bertoldo
The research activities is addressed to the pathophysiology, diagnostics and therapy of the diseases of the mineral metabolism and the metabolic and fragilizing diseases of the skeleton. It is also focused on Osteoncology, based on bone and cancer neoplasia interaction, from CTIBL to the premetastatic niche and the development of bone metastasis and its complications. All these topic are studied in pediatric age, transitional age and adulthood.
