A possible link between MetS and magnesium is increasingly recognized. All the individual components of MetS, separately and as a whole, associate with decreased magnesium intake with diet, low serum magnesium level and depletion in intracellular magnesium in cross sectional and longitudinal studies.
Magnesium supplements have been associated with a significant decrease in blood pressure (BP), especially diastolic and, to a minor extent, with better glucometabolic profile. Aim of our study is to evaluate the effect of oral magnesium supplementation in apparentl7y healthy subjects with a positive family history of metabolic syndrome.
